Have you ever read the book called Kenzie, the Wild Goose Man by Colin Willock? That gives an insight into Mackenzie Thorpe and the type of man he was. He's been described to me as a "rough diamond" and was quite a local celebrity by all accounts. There's even a road named after him "Kenzie Drive"
I have seen a video of him with the Wildfowlers but haven't got a copy at the moment.
Sorry I don't know anyone else named Thorpe who could be related. It's my understanding that his family still use his house as a holiday home.
There are a few pictures of him on here. I have a copy of an old Lincolnshire Life magazine (somewhere-but we're decorating and can't find anything at the moment) which features an interview with him.

Hello
I grew up in Sutton Bridge and lived across the road from Kenzie and his wife, Ciss. They were great friends with my gran, who I used to live with, and I spent hours with them as a child. I remember vaguely the day someone (Prince Philip maybe?) came to their house in Allenby's Close and afterwards it got changed to Royal Close. I was really young though so I can't remember much about it!
I'll have a think to see what else I can dredge up from my memory

To the best of my knowledge it was Prince Philip who went to visit Kenzie when he was ill I am 91 and I knew Kenzie well when I was a boy. Poacher, boxer, a rough diamond. always in trouble with the law but a heart of gold. I remember once just across the road from us he had got a magistrate , George Mitchell, up against a hedge furious with him. I don`t know what Kenzie would have done if the policeman hadn`t come on to the scene in time. What it was all about was that he had been up to the Court at Long Sutton and had been fined a guinea (21 shillings old money) I think for riding without a light. He didn`t mind the pound but it was that extra shilling that got him. I must say that whenever he spoke to me Kenzie was always kind and gentlemanly. He never swore when I was with him. I was not surprised when he got in with Peter Scott and that best side of his nature came out on top. My son remembers going to hear him lecture and when I mentioned Kenzie to him he demonstrated the cry of a pheasant which Kenzie taught his audience how to make.
One of my treasures is a tape of a radio programme of him well over 30 years ago. I am intending to put it on CD and hopefully see if it can be made available to this website.
